NEWS: Night Riding
Night ride season is upon us again! Being able to ride pretty much as often as I wanted through January to March meant I missed out the night riding season at the start of the year with the result that as of last week I hadn’t used my lights in about 10 months! I dug out my trusty Light and Moion Li-Ion Arc’s, charged them for a couple of hours and they switched on first time and ran on full power all night without a problem. I love it when stuff just works.
We took a selection of singletrack and climbed gently from Lezo to the top of Jaizkibel at around 550m’s. It was colder than normal, definitely under 10degC, so the air was really clear and we watched the Pyrenees light up red with the setting sun. It was totally dark by the time we got to the top and we switched our lights on, totally surprising the poor man and his mistress in their car! The descent was something else. It’s a favourite descent anyway, on singletrack for about 6-8kms all the way to the floor. It’s not steep and you can be off the brakes a lot but it’s technical and at night it was really tricky! It took us about 35mins to get to the bottom. Definitely the best thing I’ve done on a bike for a while.
Ask me on your holiday and I’ll happily take you on a night ride one evening. It’ll have to be late to get darkness during summer though!
