A route profile will be available soon, we’re just sorting out some glitches with the GPS software!

Note: I’ve got my GPS working now but I just need to ride this route so I can plot the altitude profile!

Between Hondarribia and San Sebastian lies Jaizkibel, a ridge shaped hill rising 550m from the sea. Jaizkibel is part of the coastal mountains that range along the Atlantic coast of Spain and the biking is totally different to both the Pyrenees and Basque mountains; with its hugely grippy sandstone and gentle gradients it is littered with tracks and paths to suit all abilities. Starting at the breathtaking Guadalupe chapel above Hondarribia, we drop down to the coast past the old lighthouse with breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean and the constant bass of breaking waves. If the cycling gets you a bit warm, we can stop at one of the quiet coves for a swim in the crystal clear water before continuing with the gentle climb up to Guadalupe for some lunch.

From the headland overlooking the estuary of the Rio Oiartzun, the border between Spain and France, the return leg starts on the same interesting, but not terrifying, type of one-and-a-half track as the outward leg. This time the sea view is replaced with a panoramic view of  the local mountains, with the Peñas de Aya peaks above Irun dominating. Whilst following this path there are multiple options to test yourself with some of the singletracks that drop down through the woods which, with some coaching, most riders should be able to manage.

At the end of the day we can ride straight back to your accomodation or drop back to Hondarribia for some food and a drink or two.
