Draft > Some Videos from 2009

My video making hasn’t been quite what I wanted this year! For 2010 BasqueMTB will be investing in a HD head cam and seperate video camera so that we can offer all our guests a short video of their holidays. This will also form an essential part of the coaching weeks we are running with UK Bike Skills , and will allow video feedback to help master the skills. Here are some of the videos we made in 2009 though. You can see our videos on Vimeo and short versions on Flickr. One of my favourite sites on the web at the moment for videos is MTB Movies where there’s all sorts of videos that you can see. Well worth checking it out.
All Along the WatchtowersOne of the first videos we made in 2009, me riding and my friend, Jonny, doing the filming. This is the trail we call “Along the Watchtowers” and although it only drops about 550m it is a fantastic 5-6km singletrack descent. This particular day we had stayed out too long and were racing down the ridge into the setting sun. Ultimately the sun won, leaving us with about 4km of tricky singletrack to negotiate in the dark! I love those days when you are enjoying your riding so much the days aren’t long enough.
This is just a very short clip, not edited or anything. It is on a trail called “Season of the Witch” which drops down the back of Aiako Harriak, it’s very¬† testing but this is probably one of the harder parts. It’s actually a fairly easy chute once you’re on it, however the run in is very difficult. We call it “The Rolf Harris Chute” because it’s totally sketchy! It’s all a question of commitment, like so many things!
One of the last videos that I made in 2009. This takes in several trails around the Col de Ibardin area; one of the areas that is a must do for any level of biker. This was after the 2009 season, in November I think, and I was out for a fun loop, maybe about 30kms leaving from the house with about 1001500m of climbing and descending. The narrow section of the descent was a short bit of singletrack that I had never done before, it was off camber, steep and very loose with a long fall to the river to the side. It looks totally easy in the video but it was a long way from that!
