Mountain Bike Holidays > Getting In Gear: Join a MTB Tour in the Pyrenees in Spring 2025

Above you can see some of the feedback from Spring last year… not to brag or anything! For Spring 2025 we have a lot of mountain bike trips planned.

Now that we are in the grips of winter it is a great time to have a look at what you can expect mountain biking in the Pyrenees in Spring.

Read on to see some more information about all the trips we planned in April and May.

The Pyrenees In Spring: What Can I Expect?

In the High Pyrenees mountains it is still not possible to mountain bike, the trails will be covered with snow and we might even still be skiing in some places. On the Basque Coast the weather is typcially lovely but, especially in April, it can still be changeable.

This is the time for mountain bike adventures in the Pre-Pyrenees. Here the weather can be cold overnight, but very quickly warms up in the morning, with little precipitation and short-sleeve riding the order of the day. Spring is better than summer here, the trails hold a little more moisture and have not been baked hard yet. It is a time when the land is green, the lakes are full and the backdrop of the snow-covered Pyrenees mountains provides stunning views on every trail.

April: The New Tremp vs Ainsa Supertrip

This spring we are offering two mountain bike holidays in the Pyrenees. The first, in April, is our really popular, Tremp vs Ainsa Supertour. What does Supertrip mean? Typcially we use Trip for a single-center holiday and Tour for a multi-center holiday. This trip uses two bases, separated by around 90 minutes driving, so we spend 3 days riding in Tremp, then move to Ainsa for a further 3 days of mountain biking in Zona Zero.

This trip uses lots of shuttles to get the most descending possible, with some nice climbs added in. The Tremp slickrock and smooth, flow trails match perfectly with the rougher Ainsa trails. We have been asking our groups which area they like best and so far the results are pretty evenly split!

This year we are using accommodation in the center of Tremp, to let people get out and explore in the evenings, as well as our usual hotel in the center of Ainsa which has great bike facilities and comfy rooms.

May: Our Popular Backcountry Pyrenees Tour

In May we will be focussing on our Backcountry Pyrenees trip. This is actually one of our longest running trips, but it has undergone many updates over the years and the trip now is very different from the trip a few years ago. This year we spend a couple of days in Tremp then we move on to the southern end of the Benasque Valley before passing through Ainsa on our way to the amazing trails of Guara. We spend two days riding in Guara, where the trails are chunky and flowy in equal measures! This is one of the least populated areas in Spain and one of my personal favourite places to ride.

By May, the temperatures are warming up and we might even be able to finish a ride in one of the rivers here.

Backcountry Pyrenees Dates

This year the Backcountry trips are quite full, largely due to people who did them last year re-booking early for this year. So we have added an extra date on the 24th of May to meet the demand.

3rd May (2 Spaces)
10th May (1 Space)
17th May (0 Spaces)

Some more details on the itinerary
Tremp vs Ainsa Supertrip

Saturday: We pick up at around 13:30 in Barcelona airport. From there it is a 3 hour transfer down to Tremp.

Sunday: The morning starts of with a lot of short flow-trails to let us get warmed up. In the afternoon we move to the slick-rock area for some longer, more technical shuttles. All in by the end of the day we will have climbed very little and on a typical day we descend more than 3000m.

Monday and Tuesday: More days riding the amazing trails around Tremp and the little town of La Pobla where the trails are really different and amazing fun. Typically we have picnic lunches by a lake, taking a moment to relax and take in the scenery. Usually we climb around 300-400m, and rack up around 3000m of descending. On Tuesday, when we have had enough, we grab a quick drink and head to Ainsa for the next part of the week.

Wednesday: Today we ride La Fueva, one of Ainsa´s lesser known but best areas. Lots of shuttles, climbing to an old castle on the top of a hill with breathtaking views. We ride to a little town where we usually arrange a lunch in the square for everyone. After riding we can enjoy a drink in a terrace in the old town of Ainsa.

Thursday and Friday: The next two days we tick off a bunch of classics around Ainsa, riding through the grey-earth trails, big mountain backdrops and tiny villages. Thursday and Friday are great days because the best bar in the Pyrenees opens so at the end of the day many people choose to head there! Typical days mountain biking in Ainsa are around 300-500m climbing with around 2500m descending.

Saturday: The transfer leaves just after breakfast to get everyone back to Barcelona in time for any flight which leaves after 13:30.

Sunday and Monday: We have a couple of days to explore Tremp. Honestly is isn’t enough but then we have other amazing destinations to explore on this trip. On a typical day we climb around 300m and descend more than 3000m. On Monday, when we have had enough, we grab a quick drink and head to Castellon de Sos for the night.

Tuesday: Today we have our pick of a bunch of amazing trails around Castellon de Sos. After riding we take a short transfer to Ainsa, check into our new hotel and enjoy a drink in a terrace in the old town of Ainsa.

Wednesday: Today we ride some classics around Ainsa, moving towards the natural park of Sierra de Guara. After lunch we have a short transfer and we ride one of my all-time-favourite trails down to our accommodation in Nocito.

Thursday and Friday: These two days will be spend exploring the amazing riding in Guara. This is my personal favourite area: rocks, flow and isolation. It really is a hidden Pyrenees gem. Sitting in the tiny village at the end of a big day on the bike, enjoying the big views out to the mountains is always a pleasure. At the end of the day on Friday we do the best trail of your lives and then transfer back to Ainsa. All your bike bags have magically appeared there so you can pack your bike away before dinner.

Saturday: The transfer leaves just after breakfast to get everyone back to Barcelona in time for any flight which leaves after 13:30.
