Mountain Biking along the Basque Coast. A truly stunning part of Spain.

Overview
The Basque coastline was formed by plate movement which pushed the sea bed upwards forming a range of mountains running in ridges parallel to the coast. These mountains offer some stunning mountain biking, on a variety of trails. People who have visited this part of Spain with us for one of our “normal” holidays will already be aware of the great mountain biking offered by places like Jaizkibel and around San Sebastian. This holiday takes those trails and extends them for a week-long tour during which we will cycle the length of the Basque Coast between Hondarribia and Bilbao. We will pass through San Sebastian and lots of traditional fishing villages such as Zarautz, Getaria, Mundaka and Bermeo, stopping in a different place each night  to eat, rest and sample the nightlife before moving on the next morning. We will be fully, and ably, supported by Amaia in our 9 seater minibus who will take our belongings and meet us each night to show us around the next village and make sure we find the best places to eat and drink.

This tour is much more than a mountain biking holiday though. Amaia is a local Basque girl and she will make sure we see the best parts of the towns we stop in each night. Additionally this holiday is suitable for non-bikers because each day Amaia will offer an alternative activity to keep everyone amused.

Dates
This tour is available throughout the season so please get in touch to register your interest. We need a minimum of 4 people to run this holiday, however if your group is smaller than this please get in touch anyway and we will see if we can combine two groups to make up the numbers.

Where/Travel
This tour will run in May, June, July and September. The best airports for this tour are either Bilbao in Spain or Biarritz in France.

Suitability (level)
This tour is suitable for most riders. Like all of our holidays we will be seeking out the singletrack and it may be technical in places. Due to the nature of the Basque hills we may have some steep climbs, although we will aim to keep these to a minimum. Each morning there will be the option of a lift up the first hill in our van, and anyone who can´t manage the day’s riding can be rescued by Amaia in the van if they wish. We will ride for 6 days in a row, taking in around 25 to 35km each day with around 1000m of climbing so a good level of fitness is required, however you don´t need to be Lance Armstrong!

Accommodation
The accommodation will be a mixture of local bed and breakfasts and hotels. We will stay in a different place each night. Have a look at the accommodation we use for our single base week to get an idea of the standard of accommodation we use.

Cost
This holiday costs €995. Guiding during the day and evening are included as are alternative non-biking day trips every day. Accommodation, breakfast and transfers are also included. Not included are flights, lunches, dinners, drinks and any entry fees for the optional non-biking activities.
