Another amazing week of the best trails ever, ridden with the best guides. David M
We will ride high in the Pyrenees mountains, often using special 4×4 uplifts to access the very best trails and link up this amazing mountain bike adventure. The biking is tough and this is definitely a trip for fit and skilled riders who are looking for a challenge.
An absolutely awesome trip! Exceptional trails, great accomodation and meals and superb guides. I can’t speak highly enough of the week and would return ion a heartbeat! Garth from NZ
This is a multi center holiday, designed to ride the best, and most diverse, trails high up in the Spanish Pyrenees. During this week’s mountain bike holiday we generally get over 15,000m of descending with around 2,000 – 3000m of climbing. Put simply this is some of the best mountain biking available on the planet.

All our weeks are tailored to the guests and during the booking process we will discuss your requirements and make sure you are put in with a suitable group. Each week we aim to run two groups with a guide, driver, van and trailer each to allow people to choose the group which best suits their level.
High Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Technical Level
high pyrenees mountain bike holiday
The trails on this mountain bike holiday are going to be advanced and you can expect unrelenting technical singletrack, rocky switchbacks and some exposure. The climbing will be challenging in places, although we will use plenty of van uplift, and expect to be pushing or carrying your bike for some sections. The sort of rider who will get the most from this tour will be very comfortable on any of the trail centre trails in the UK and maybe already have tried the Basque Coast mountain bike holiday. The trails aren´t as tough as the toughest trails on the Basque Coast, however there aren´t the options for easy trails like on the Basque Coast
Summary of the trip: “See you next year”! Ian L
High Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Required Fitness
high pyrenees mountain bike holiday
A good level of fitness is required although we will use van uplift to help with the climbs. Some climbs will be sustained and some days my require some pushing or carrying of the bike. What is most tiring though are the descents, some of which are very long, with up to 20km of singletrack. Through the week we will descend over 10,000m and climb around 2-3000m..
I travelled all the way from Australia just for this trip ! After doing a few other trips elsewhere around the world, I realised how well Basque Mtb run things Troy F

High Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Riding Areas

The area of the High Pyrenees holiday will vary from year to year and group to group. There is so much riding in this part of Spain, and it is all so good, that we will choose the areas we ride in to make the best holiday possible. We choose the trip based on the weather, the group and we are constantly receiving updates on trail conditions from local riders so if we hear a descent is riding really well then we might change our plans to include it in our trip.Typically the High Pyrenees trip sticks to the spine of the Pyrenees, riding close to the Spanish – French border in the higher mountains.

Bilbao Airport is the best. Biarritz is also good. If you are flying from outside Europe you might arrive to Madrid or Barcelona and be able to fly on to Hondarribia Airport for the shortest transfer.
If you are coming by car then the ferry to Bilbao or Santander is a good option.
From Paris you can take the TGV direct to Hendaye.
For our High Pyrenees trips we need to pick up in San Sebastian, or Biarritz airport around 2pm. This means if you arrive to Bilbao you need to get in around midday.

We pick up on Saturday in San Sebastian at 2pm or thereabouts. If you need to discuss arrival information then please just get in touch before booking flights.
The High Pyrenees starts and finishes on Saturday. Due to the logistics shorter trips aren´t possible.

well thought out routes, superb accommodation… A truly EPIC adventure Tony

The accommodation we use for our High Pyrenees mountain bike holiday will be a mixture of high quality local bed and breakfasts, upmarket hotels and stunning, “rider owned” apartments, all chosen for their character and to keep us closest to the very best mountain bike trails.

We pride ourselves on the high quality of eating that you will experience on our mountain bike holidays! We love to eat and also enjoy trying the good wines and we relish the chance to share the great traditional Spanish places that we have found with our guests. We can’t guarantee that you will lose weight on our trips! We include two packed lunches and four evening meals, on other days lunches will cost around €5-10 each day and dinners will cost from €10 to €25 each night.

Visiting Spain Alone?

All of our prices are calculated on the basis of two people sharing a room. We don’t charge a single person supplement, however we will aim to put two single people, of the same gender, into the same room. If you really don’t want this then we need to charge a single person supplement, please get in touch to ask about this. If you are traveling as an odd numbered group we will try to offer you the option of 3 to a room rather than sharing with a stranger, if we do that we will make sure there is a room large enough to make this comfortable! Depending on availability we can also offer an individual room, however due to the quality of the accommodation we use this isn’t a cheap option, full details are on the booking page.

Non Biking

Really the High Pyrenees isn´t the best holiday for non-bikers. Each day we are riding all day, with very little downtime, and we often ride from one accommodation to the next, meaning a long can trip for non-riders. If you are looking for a holiday with you and a non riding partner then you should really consider the fantastic riding on the Basque Coast. If someone wanted a day off biking then that is something we can do on the High Pyrenees. In the middle of the week we stay in a beautiful medieval town with a lovely spa and we can organise a really nice day off the bike if anyone fancies it.

Here are some of the questions we are regularly asked about our mountain bike holidays. If you have any questions we are delighted to answer them, just get in touch.
Do you have an itinerary for your High Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holidays?
We don’t have set itineraries for any of our mountain bike holidays, we believe that the trails should be matched to the guests, however to give you an idea of what our High Pyrenees mountain bike tour looks like you can see an outline itinerary here: High Pyrenees Mountain Bike Tour Itinerary.
I don't want to do a week's mountain bike holiday, can I do a shorter break?
Unfortunately for our High Pyrenees holidays we can’t offer shorter tours due to the fact that at times during the trip we will be a long way from the airport.
What are the group sizes on a typical mountain bike holiday?
Our High Pyrenees mountain bike holidays run with a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 12. Up to 6 guests we would operate with one van and trailer and either one or two guides depending on the make up of the group. There would always be the option of adding another guide if we needed to split the group up. With 7 or more guests we would run with two vans, two drivers and two guides. Some days we don´t need the drivers and they would be acting as back markers.
My partner doesn't mountain bike but would like to join our holiday, is this possible?
The High Pyrenees trip isn’t really suitable for non-bikers. We would really recommend our Basque coast mountain bike holidays, near San Sebastian, if you want to come with non biking partners.
What is the weather like in that part of Spain?
The weather in the Spanish Pyrenees allows year round mountain biking. In winter the days are generally cold, however the skies are generally clear and this is a very dry part of Spain with around 330 days of sunshine a year. Temperatures are higher in autumn and spring, but you can expect general temperatures of around 10-20degC.
What bike / tyres / brake pads do you recommend for this part of Spain?
To try and make this subject a bit interactive we have a facebook page dedicated to this. Please have a look here, (and we always appreciate people liking our page!).
