Ride trails shared with us by local mountain bikers. Trails that most people never find.
A mountain bike tour with a difference. Ride only the best trails in the best areas.
We have chosen the route of this mountain bike holiday to take us to the best singletrack in the Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees mountains. We will ride perfect, unspoilt singletrack that local mountain bikers have been kind enough to share with Basque MTB which few people ever get to ride and will venture deep into some undiscovered mountain biking locations which boast stunning scenery coupled with unbelievable mountain biking. We will also ride “Zona Zero” in Ainsa, an area that friends of Basque MTB have developed which offers some stunning mountain bike trails right in the heart of the Pyrenees.
We call this holiday our Backcountry Pyrenees Tour, although we don’t ride point to point. We have chosen a few areas and will spend a day or two in each area before driving to another, nearby area to stay and enjoy the mountain biking. We believe that this mountain bike tour offers the very best way to explore the unbelievable diversity and quality of the trails in this part of Spain. There will be van uplift to help most mornings as we ride high on the Pyrenees mountains and deep in the gorges which are scattered across the area, riding miles and miles of technical singletrack which is best described as a cross between the best Alpine descents and the south of Spain. During this week’s mountain bike holiday we generally get over 10,000m of descending with around 2,000 – 3000m of climbing.
Put simply this is some of the best mountain biking available on the planet.
Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Technical Level
The trails on this mountain bike holiday are going to be advanced and you can expect unrelenting technical singletrack, rocky switchbacks and some exposure. The climbing will be challenging in places, although we will use plenty of van uplift, and expect to be pushing your bike for some sections. The sort of rider who will get the most from this tour will be very comfortable on any of the trail centre trails in the UK and maybe have visited the Basque Country for one of our mountain bike holidays there first.
Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Required Fitness
A good level of fitness is required although we will use van uplift to help with the climbs. Some climbs will be sustained and some days my require some pushing or carrying of the bike. Some of the descents are very long, with up to 20km of singletrack, so you need to be fit enough to enjoy long, technical singletrack descents.
Through the week we will descend over 10,000m and climb around 2-3000m.
Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holiday: Riding Areas
The area of the Backcountry Pyrenees holiday will vary from year to year and group to group. There is so much riding in this part of Spain, and it is all so good, that we will choose the areas we ride in to make the best holiday possible. Do you have an itinerary for your Backcountry Pyrenees Mountain Bike Holidays?
We don’t have set itineraries for any of our mountain bike holidays, we believe that the trails should be matched to the guests, however to give you an idea of what our Backcountry Pyrenees mountain bike tour looks like you can see an outline itinerary here: Backcountry Pyrenees Mountain Bike Tour Itinerary.
I don’t want to do a week’s mountain bike holiday, can I do a shorter break?
Unfortunately for our Backcountry Pyrenees holidays we can’t offer shorter tours due to the fact that at times during the trip we will be a long way from the airport.
What are the group sizes on a typical mountain bike holiday?
Our Backcountry Pyrenees mountain bike holidays run with a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 7. If you need a bigger or smaller group then please get in touch and discuss the options.
My partner doesn’t mountain bike but would like to join our holiday, is this possible?
The Backcountry Pyrenees trip isn’t really suitable for non-bikers. We would really recommend our Basque coast mountain bike holidays, near San Sebastian, if you want to come with non biking partners.
What is the weather like in that part of Spain?
The weather in the Spanish Pyrenees allows year round mountain biking. In winter the days are generally cold, however the skies are generally clear and due to the variety of the areas we can choose to ride in we almost always find dry trails. Temperatures are higher in autumn and spring, with temperatures around 5-15degC.
