Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holiday Report

Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holidays in Ainsa

This year we have been running our new Winter Enduro trip. This January we guided two groups on the first trips which we opened to general booking. The winter enduro mountain bike holidays have worked really well and it´s been great for us guides to have some cycling in January as well. We have two more trips scheduled, a fully booked one in February and another from in March which still has spaces available. Rather than write too many words I will let the pictures tell the stories, have a look below to get an idea about this new cycling holiday we are running. There are a lot of photos so maybe you might need to give it a minute to load.

“I have done a lot of mountain bike weeks, in the Alps, La Palma and Madeira. But this Winter Enduro of Basque Mtb was absolutely the best”

Bart (Netherlands)

The Winter Enduro Became The Ainsa Enduro Holiday

This article describes a test run of a holiday which became our Ainsa Enduro. Why not check out the Ainsa Enduro Mountain Bike Holiday page to see what we offer.

Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holiday – Week 1

The first Winter Enduro trip was quite unusual for us in that we didn´t have many repeat guests. The group was mostly made up with people we didn´t know and they came from all around the world, including our first Hungarian guest, the fantastic Tamas! We rode 3 days within the main Zona Zero, or Ainsa, area using our vans to uplift the guests and let them see a lot of the trails in a short time. The other 3 days we rode outside the small Zona Zero area, venturing into Guara natural park and the Pyrenees. Of course we couldn´t go too high, in winter there is a lot of snow, but there are so many great and varied trails at lower heights that wasn´t a problem. We had low temperatures but there were still plenty of short sleeves on display by lunchtime. Low temperatures are generally a good thing here as it means the trails are hard and fast with really incredible grip.

“The riding was challenging at times, but the best of my life!”

Tamas (Hungary)

“The Winter Enduro mountain bike holiday was my first guided trip with Basque MTB and I can honestly say it will not be my last. Superb guides, superb trails, amazing scenery…..well done Basque MTB, you have nailed it.”

Steve (UK)

Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holiday – Week 2

Week 2 was the opposite of the first Winter Enduro week in that almost all of the guests had been before. Some people have been 7 or 8 times! We love meeting new people but it´s always amazing when old friends come back to visit. We also had the big fiesta in Ainsa, where they light huge bonfires in the streets and dance the night away. During the fiesta we organised a special meal for the guests, with the traditional local food and drink which was followed up by some fire-jumping. A great way to spend a night. I´m sad to say 2 people didn’t manage the riding the day after the festival after too much local wine. Guys, I´m not angry, just disappointed.

The riding was maybe a little more epic feeling than the previous week, thanks to the weather. We had a big Siberian front come over and the temperatures plummeted. We had -9degC overnight and single figure temperatures during the day along with some snow. We managed to ride all the normal trails although sometimes the uplift drivers had an exciting descent on the snowy dirt tracks. On the last day we had a hard 1hr climb through snow to get to the top of an amazing descent which we rode on snow, often with a big drop inches to our right! It was a very physical but great fun way to end the week.

“This was the best riding I’ve ever experience. To all the guides and Doug, thank you for the great time and awesome photos”

Martin

“The best trails I have ever ridden. A perfect amount of uplift with some good climbs thrown in as well. Accommodation exceeded expectation and everyone on the trip was great. Whilst i was apprehensive of the riding before the trip, I needn’t have been”

Tim

“Great trip, great riding, great people. Would book again”

John

Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holiday – Overview

Thanks to everyone who came and thanks for making it fun. We really enjoyed these Winter Enduro Mountain Bike Holidays in Ainsa and are looking forward to running more in the future. For anyone interested in this trip just give us a shout.

From our point of view we see plenty of ways to keep improving the holiday and have some plans already. We really enjoyed it though and the format with a little bit less uplift really works well with the shorter winter days. We climbed a good bit every day but still did a lot of descending. It felt, to us, like the perfect way to get some exercise and descending through winter. It´s not really our opinion that matters though, have a look at the comments from the guests these weeks to see what they thought!

Another thing that worked well from our point of view was having extra guides. We are currently training up Igor for guiding so we normally had 2 guides driving and 3 on the trails. That worked really well for us and is something we will definitely continue through the year as Igor starts to guide more.

Enough words from me though, have a look through some of the photos we have taken this week!

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! Hope to see you all again soon.
